GREENVILLE -- Trent Whitehead collected a career-best five hits, while Devin Harris and Zach Wright hit back-to-back home runs for the third time this season as No. 25-ranked East Carolina dismantled N.C. Central 20-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates (16-8 overall) claimed their seventh consecutive victory and outscored the Eagles 65-7 over the weekend. NCCU departed winless in 22 outings this season.

ECU established a new school record for runs in a three-game series, topping the previous mark set against former Conference USA opponent Cincinnati in 2004.

Whitehead, who entered the series with a .263 average, registered base knocks in the first five innings before flying out to center in the sixth raising his average to .318. All nine starters recorded at least one hit on the afternoon with Dustin Harrington, Devin Harris, Austin Homan, Corey Thompson, Whitehead and Wright recording multiple hits.

Eight of the Pirates' starters drove in at least one run with Philip Clark being the odd man out. However, he was one of seven Pirates to score multiple runs in the game when he crossed the plate twice in the contest.

Mike Wright (2-1) recorded his second win of the season after working a predetermined three innings where he allowed one run on three hits with two punch outs. The 6-foot-5 sophomore retired the first six batters he faced before giving up a third-inning single to Justin Goodson.

The Pirates return home Tuesday to play in-state rival Elon University. First pitch is 6 p.m. at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium.
