Thelma Sutton Britt, 98, died Thursday at her residence surrounded by her family.
Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late T.L. and Lela Britt Sutton, wife of the late Gurney Britt and sister of the late Bill Sutton, Pauline Price, Thad Sutton, Ray Sutton and Melvin Sutton.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Jean Britt, and a son-in-law, Melvin Smith.
She was a lifelong member of Manley Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The family will have a visitation Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Mrs. Britt's life at 3 p.m. in Shumate Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Britt is survived by her son, Eddis Earl Britt and wife, Wilma; daughters, Lela Sutton and husband, Joe, Betty Britt Smith, Mary Britt Wilson and husband, Jimmy, and Linda Hales and husband, Kenneth; her brothers, Edward Earl Sutton and Charles Sutton; a sister, Ethel Reiss; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
