ANN MILLER GERRARD

May 22, 1939-Aug. 20, 2018

After a battle with ALS, God called Ann to her heavenly home in her new spiritual body Monday, Aug. 20. She was granted a peaceful death with her husband and three children at her side.

Barbara Ann Miller was born May 22, 1939, to Carlton and Merle Miller in Gainesville, Ga.

After living in Pensacola, Fla., during World War II, her family made Bremen, Ga., its home.

Ann excelled in sports, was head cheerleader and was an excellent golfer.

She graduated from Bremen High in 1957, and it was on to University of Georgia.

In their senior year at the University of Georgia, Ann and Larry were introduced to each other in the fall of 1962. From that day, they both realized they were going to have a lifetime of togetherness.

After graduation in 1963, Ann and Larry were married April 25, 1964.

While living in Augusta, Ga., son, Thomas Kendall Gerrard, was born in 1965.

Later, after living in Florence, S.C., Ann and Larry moved to Goldsboro, N.C., in 1968. In Goldsboro, daughter, Laurie Ann, was born in 1970, followed by daughter, Karen Lynn in 1972.

Ann decided she wanted to stay home and be a full time mom.

She became involved in activities such as scouting, sports and all other things involving her children.

Ann had a natural caring passion for young children and their core value development. She used this trait well in raising her own three children.

After her children graduated from college, married and began having their children, Ann began to experience the greatest period of her life by being a grandmother. Known as Nan to her grandchildren, all seven of them had a special place in her heart, as well for her in the hearts of each of them.

Son, Ken and Lara Gerrard have grandsons, Miller (22), Hayes (19) and Cam (15).

Daughter, Laurie and Dave Harrell of Raleigh, N.C., have grandsons, Ellis Perry (22) and Parker Perry (20).

Daughter, Karen and Tim Poore of Wesley Chapel, N.C., have daughter, Sydney Poore (19), and grandson, Carson Poore (15).

Preceding Ann in death were father and mother, Carlton and Merle Miller of Knoxville Tenn., and in-laws, Furman and Evelyn Gerrard of Anderson, S.C.

Ann is survived by Larry Thomas Gerrard, husband of 54 years; brother, Melvin and his wife, Linda, of Knoxville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews mostly in Georgia.

A service to celebrate Ann’s life will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service Saturday in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Foundation, 4 N. Blount St., Raleigh, N.C., 27601.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
