ERNESTINE S. BROCK

Ernestine Smith Brock, resident of the Beautancus community near Mount Olive since her marriage in 1946 to Roy Lawrence Brock, passed away quietly and peacefully early Monday morning, Aug. 13, 2018, while at home surrounded by loved ones. She was 91 years of age.
Mrs. Brock, a native of the Beaverdam community outside of Roseboro, attended Beaverdam School and Stedman High School.
Baptised at age 14, she joined Beaverdam Baptist Church, which was attended by her family. Always active in the church, she was serving as Sunday school secretary/treasurer at the time of her marriage.
Upon marriage, she became a member of Bear Marsh Baptist Church, and this membership had endured for more than 70 years. She served Bear Marsh in many capacities, and was a faithful member until failing health prevented her attendance.
However, her presence was not forgotten as she was supported by the church's shut-in ministry, which enabled her to listen to recordings of services. The kindness and love afforded by her church family will be long remembered by her family.
She was an exceptional in her capabilites as a farm wife, working in the fields along side her husband, tending to beautiful flower gardens and growing vegetables and somehow managing to prepare delicious meals for her family and farm hands as well.
Known for her cooking by her family and her neighbors, she excelled at quilting and doing homemaking duties.
Loving, dependable, reliable and steadfast, she fulfilled all her life's roles as daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend with enthusiasm.
Mrs. Brock was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents, Edgar Pierce Smith and Olivia Estelle Horne Smith; a son-in-law, Jimmy Gray Goodman; brothers, Ira, Lacy and Leo; and sisters, Floy, Atha, Atwood and Lucy.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue Brock Goodman; son and daughter-in-law, Roy Allen Brock and Anita Gaye Jackson Brock; grandchildren, Stacey Brock Langston and husband,Dale, Michael Jay Goodman and Darren Gray Goodman all of the Beautancus community, Mount Olive; great-grandchildren, Olivia Ann Goodman and her mother, Ann Hutsell, of Woodland, N.C., Autumn Gray Goodman and Logan Brock Goodman and their mother, Sarah Kelly, all of Mount Olive, John Allen Quinn and Jolene Jackson Langston of Mount Olive; a brother-in-law, Elbert Jones of Roseboro; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver and friend, Linda Melton of Mount Olive.
The Brock family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home Wednesday, Aug. 15, beginning at 3 p.m., with services to follow at 4 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Paul Rose will officiate, and burial will then be in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Olive.
