Mary Elizabeth Hendrix Murray, 100, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018.

A resident of Brighton Gardens of Raleigh, after the death of her husband, Durwood Johnson Murray of Goldsboro.

Mae was born March 26, 1918, in Greensboro to the Rev. Thomas J. Hendrix and Gertrude Craven Hendrix.

She was preceded in death by husband Durwood J. Murray of 70 years; her son, Johnson Murray II; sister, Selma H. Mackie, of Greensboro; and five brothers.

She is survived by daughters, Elizabeth and Susan Kathryn; sister, Bette Ann Light, of Greensboro; and many nieces and nephews.

Mae was a dedicated member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Goldsboro. She was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir and member of the J. Paul Edwards Sunday School class.

Mae was also an active life member of the Goldsboro Evergreen Garden Club, and served as president. She was a North Carolina Master Flower Club Emeritus Judge in floral design. She received the National Garden Clubs Inc. award of Distinguished Service in 2008, for her significant contributions.

She was devoted to family, friends, garden club members, St. Paul Methodist Church and her community.

Graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 1, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

The family expresses gratitude and appreciation to everyone for love and care.
