Bobby Gene Gooding, 79, Dudley, passed away Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Bobby was born Sept.1, 1938, in Wayne County to the late Ben and Sarah McFatter Gooding.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Jean Gooding and Shirley Ann Smith Gooding.

Bobby had retired from the Georgia Department of Defense and proudly served his country in the United States Army.

After moving to Goldsboro, Bobby worked in security for Aycock Auto Auction.

A service to celebrate Bobby’s life was Saturday, July 28, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with Rev. J. Wesley Jarman officiating. The family greeted friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be Monday, July 30, at 11 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, Ga.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Mary Cooke Gooding; children, Joseph “Joe” Gooding and Karen Gooding, both of Maryland; sisters, Carolyn Pollock, of Goldsboro, Linda Strickland, of Florence, S.C., Kay Boswell, of Goldsboro, Rachel Sawberger, of Goldsboro and Peggy Howard, of Goldsboro; brother, James “Jimmy” Gooding, of Goldsboro; stepson, Clinton Cooke; stepdaughter, Lisa Wade; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Eloise Martin, Sandy Gooding and Ginger Gooding.
