Norman C. Denning Sr., 94, Four Oaks, Johnston County, died Thursday, June 14, 2018.

Funeral service Monday, June 18, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Saint John Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment Lee Family Cemetery of Four Oaks, N.C. Officiating will be the Rev. Jim Skinner.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.

Survivors, daughters, Phyllis D. Godwin and husband, Rodney, of Raleigh N.C., and Mary Jane Denning Carroll of Four Oaks, N.C., son, Norman C. Denning Jr. and wife, Sherry, of Four Oaks, N.C.; grandchildren, Clint Ferrell Sr., Paige Carroll, Brittany Denning and Norman “Trey” Denning III; and great-grandchildren, Clint Ferrell Jr., Claire Ferrell and Oliva Carroll.

Preceded in death by parents, George E. and Mary T. Denning, and wife, Jean R. Denning

He was a member of Saint John Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Some of his public service and awards for service were Johnston County Commissioner for 36 years with 26 of those years as chairman, fre commissioner for 36 years, health moard for 26 years with 20 of those being chairman, Order of the Long Leaf Pine, "Living Legend" by the Heritage Center, North Carolina Livestock Hall of Fame, North Carolina Pork Producers Hall of Fame, president of the North Carolina Purebred Breeders Association, "Distinguished Citizen" award by the Boy Scouts of America and appointed to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission by Gov. Bob Scott, and was privileged to have the Johnston County Livestock Endowment Scholarship Fund renamed in his and his wife's honor.

He took great pride and love in his Lord, family, community, county and all agricultural endeavors.
