Elder Woodrow Grandy Sr., "Momma's baby," (Peck), 85, 107 Elmore St., Mount Olive, traveled to his Heavenly home on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at 5:10 a.m., following a courageous battle with dementia in which he suffered for many years.
While the disease impaired his thought processes and judgments at times, and ultimately led to his inability to walk, hear, or take care of himself, Woodrow Grandy Sr. remained faithful until his last breath in lifting up the name of our only wise savior.
He was born the 13th child of Albert and Tommy Ann Whitfield Grandy, and was a lifelong resident of Wayne County. He was schooled in Wayne County Schools and later worked until retirement, in 1999, from Brogden Middle School in Dudley, N.C.
Woodrow Grandy was married to the love of his life, the late Mary Allen Grandy.
He leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Elder Woodrow Grandy Jr. (Evangeline), Dudley, N.C., Elder Cincarlton Grandy (Narail), Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter, Elder Sonjia Grandy Russell (Deacon Billy), Mount Olive, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Allen, Dudley, N.C.; sisters, Eldress Naomi Grandy Carraway, Dudley, N.C., and Wyoming Grandy, Long Island, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-laws, Edward "Pistol" Allen (Stella) Greenevers, N.C., Ralph Allen (Carolyn), Goldsboro, N.C.; sister-in-law, Shirley Allen Hornsby, Wilmington, N.C.; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, including two special nephews who visited him frequently, the Rev. Eugene Grandy and Ervin Grandy.
The funeral service will be Monday, March 19, 2018, at 11 a.m. at New Saint Delight Holy Church, 693 Suttontown Road, in Mount Olive. Visitation will be held one our prior to the service.
