COREY ELIZABETH THOMAS

July 6, 1978-Dec. 23, 2017

Corey Elizabeth Thomas, 39, went to her heavenly home Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, to walk hand in hand with our Lord and Savior.

Corey was a very special child brought into our lives July 6, 1978, and placed by God in the loving hands of her parents, Donald Cooper Thomas and Carolyn Pike Thomas of Goldsboro.

Corey, also known as "Biz," went through life seeing only the beauty of this earth and the good in others.

She was a graduate of Rosewood High School, and attended Wayne Community College.

Corey loved to sit and watch television, either an old movie or a "Law and Order" show.

She also enjoyed listening to her music, but would prefer the oldies, especially The Beatles.

A recent highlight for Corey was when her parents surprised her for her 39th birthday with a visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tenn.

Family was paramount to Corey; she shaped the lives of family, friends and random strangers in ways that made them into better people.

Her heart was vast, pure and kind. She was always willing and eager to help others.

Her family will remember her best for being competitive, whether she was watching a sporting event or actually participating in one, such as driveway basketball or corn hole.

Furthermore, she was always everyone's best partner in any trivia game.

She definitely did not want to miss any part of life; she was in the center of our life.

Corey truly enjoyed traveling with family, and always looked forward to the family vacation at the beach.

She was the kindest and most loving daughter, sister, aunt and a great friend to everyone. Corey loved her mom, and Carolyn did what she did best, which was being a loving mother and best friend to Corey.

She will be missed by all who were blessed enough to know her.

The family intends to honor Corey by making certain that the joyful spirit and laughter in this family returns in full force. The family understands that this effort will require time and the help of the extended family and many dear and wonderful friends.

The family finds hope in the fact that, though Corey was surrounded by love in her life, she is now experiencing the perfect love of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Corey's life at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with her pastor, Dr. Glenn Phillips of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro, officiating. A private interment for the family will conclude the service in Silas Pike Cemetery in Pikeville.

In addition to her parents, Corey is survived by her sisters, Donna Thomas Graham and husband, David, and Paula Thomas Foley and husband, Eric; brother, Donnie Thomas; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Taylor Graham, Aaron Graham, Kellen Graham, Ian Foley, Andrew Graham, Pavin Foley and Landon Foley.

She is also survived by her feline friends, Gracie and Tiger; uncles and aunts, Homer and Carmen Pike, Maxine Godwin, Allan and Susan Pike, Barbara Thomas and Betsy and Martin Woodruff; and several cousins she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Homer Pike and Carrie Pike Carraway; paternal grandparents, Cooper and Edna Thomas; uncles, Danny Godwin and Jimmy R. Thomas; and two cousins.

Corey's family would like to acknowledge the staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital and Duke University Medical Center, who fought so hard for her life, as well as the flight crew with Duke Life Flight, who tried so hard to make a difference. Together they demonstrated what constitutes excellent medical care.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or the American Heart Association, 3219 Landmark St., Greenville, N.C., 27834-7688.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
