Mavis Arlene Overton Smith, 82, Goldsboro, was called home Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, to the loving arms of Jesus Christ her Lord while surrounded by her family.

Arlene was born in Wayne County Aug. 14, 1935, one of eight children, to the late Charlie and Eula Mae Raynor Overton.

For many years, Arlene was a valued partner with the family restaurant, The Steak Barn, in Goldsboro.

She brought joy, laughter and love to everyone she met.

Arlene was the rock of her family, and her family knew that she loved them with all her heart and truly was a blessing to them.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a service to celebrate Arlene's life at 11 a.m. in the chapel, with her brother, the Rev. Charles Overton, officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Arlene is survived by her children, Linda Davis, Phyllis Summerlin (Ted), Terry Davis, Kimberly Smith (Darren) and Karen Adams (Scott); grandchildren, Ashley Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Jack Adams, Nick Summerlin, Morgan Smith, Stephanie Smith, Travis Davis, Brandon Davis and Celeste Davis; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Emma.

She is also survived by her brother, Charles Overton.

Arlene's family would like to acknowledge the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice, as well as the friends, caregivers and physicians who had a profound impact on the quality of Arlene's life in recent years.
