Charles Raymond "Champ" Champion, 70, Dudley, died Friday evening at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Born in Granville County Sept. 6, 1947, he was the son of the late Sidney C. Champion and Helen Cash Champion.

A mechanic by trade, Champ owned and operated Champ's Garage, where he spent many hours repairing automobiles.

He will be remembered as a generous, hard-working man, who would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, from 11 a.m. to noon at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service in the chapel at noon. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Champ is survived by his wife, Mary Johnson Ashe; daughters, Jamie Champion and Ashley Champion both of Goldsboro; sons, Jerry Champion and wife, Dorthy, of Georgia, Mike Champion and wife, Tricia, of Kenly, Tony Champion of Goldsboro and Sidney Champion and wife, Stacy, of Fremont; nine siblings, Howard, Virginia, Donald, Faye, Clifton, Linda, Betsy, Larry and Steve; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Pauline, Erma and Burley.
