Robert Watson Osborne, 90, Goldsboro, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Bob was born in Damascus, Va., Oct. 27, 1926, to the late Gaston and Myrtle Eastridge Osborne.

He lived his dream proudly serving for four years in the United States Navy, and retiring after 191/2 years in the United States Air Force.

Bob will always be remembered for his love of family and for his patriotism. He protected his country and her allies on multiple deployments during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Bob's valor and skill were recognized with numerous decorations.

Bob was loved by his wife, children and grandchildren, who called him "Daddy Bob" or "PaPa."

He will be remembered for his love of gardening, fishing and hunting. Bob will be missed by his family and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Adamsville Baptist Church, of which he was a member for 50 years, followed by a service to celebrate Bob's life at 3 p.m., with pastor Ryne Fullerton officiating. Interment will conclude the service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

Bob is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mimble A. Osborne; son, Robert Osborne Jr. and wife, Susan; daughters, Melba Louise Hutchinson and husband, Ed, and Sheila R. Peters and husband, Terrance; sister, Mary Elizabeth Scott of Damascus, Va.; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, R.M. Osborne and Charles Thomas, and sisters, Lydia Sexton and Jewell Snyder.
