George William "Bill" Hartley, 94, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 at Somerset Court surrounded by his family.

George was born in Johnston County on Sept. 30, 1922, to the late Matthew Herbert Hartley and Lula Williford Hartley. He was married to the late Inez Watkins Hartley. George retired from the Johnston County Sanitation Department. A veteran of World War II, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. George will always be remembered for his love of a good practical joke whether done to him or by him as well as his true love of family, friends, life and work.

A service to celebrate George's life will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Bill Rose and Pastor Dennis Pollock officiating. Interment will follow in Princeton Cemetery with military honors.

George is survived by his son, Steve Hartley and wife, Claudia Massaro of Ashburn, Va.; son, Terry L. Hartley and wife, Annette of Goldsboro; four grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 7, from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times, at the home of Terry and Annette Hartley, 110 Red Field Place, Goldsboro.
