Janice Walker Nation, 80, LaGrange, N.C., died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by family.
She was born in LaGrange, N.C., to the late Luna and Wilbur Lane.
Janice enjoyed working as office manager and bookkeeper alongside her husband, Roy G. Nation Sr., M.D. Together they also built and managed a successful hog farming operation for many years.
Janice was known for her exceptional singing voice, impeccable sense of style, sass and commanding presence. She always wore high heels and bright red lipstick.
Janice was loved by many friends, church family, community members and her family.
She was a faithful member of Freedom Baptist Church, and she enjoyed teaching Sunday school through the years.
Janice carried a compassion for all around her, and shared a love for animals, especially her granddogs, Buster and Tucker.
She loved to garden and sing in the choir, and always put her family first. She will be greatly missed.
Janice is survived by her children, Donald Garrett Walker and Karen Vinson; grandchildren, Becky Vinson, Michelle Perkins Cianfarra, April Lenker, Leslie Walker, Sarah Walker Gambella and Danielle Grant; great-grandchildren, Jimmy Graham, Karena Vinson, Brianna Perkins, Keller, Emerson and Avery Lenker and Hannah Grant; siblings, Joyce Mansfield, Faith Lancaster, Kenneth Lane, J.W. Lane and Max Lane; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy G. Nation Sr., M.D.; parents, Luna and Wilbur Lane; and sisters, Myrtle, Francis and Louise.
We would like to express a special "thank you" to the awesome staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love, care and compassion provided for Janice, our mother and grandmother, and her family during her final days. We cannot express into words how much we appreciate each and every one of you.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Janice's life at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the pastor Jonathan Smith from Freedom Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange, N.C.
Immediately after the service and at other times, the family will receive friends and family at 222 Conover Road, LaGrange, N.C., 28551.
