SAM TAYLOR

Died Aug. 23, 2017

Sam Taylor, 91, 597 Taylor Town Road, Faison, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family Aug. 23, 2017.

He is also survived by his brother, Leon "Teny" Taylor; his sister, Mary T. Murphy; and many special nieces and nephews.

Sam was a special man who wore many "hats." He was a farmer, a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, a taxidermist, a lover of all types of animals, an excellent barbecue cook, a handyman who could fix just about anything and a good neighbor and friend to everyone he met by helping them and giving away vegetables he grew.

Once you met him, you loved him.

Sam loved spending time with his family. He was a loving and dedicated family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly.

Sam loved the Lord, and faithfully served Bowden Community Church as a member, elder and superintendent. He had Sunday school perfect attendance for 63 years, and was a testimony to so many.

Sam owned and operated Bear Swamp Taxidermy with Ben Parks, where they beautifully mounted animals for more than 56 years.

Sam also served as a board member of the Duplin County Soil and Water Board for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Velma Taylor, and his sister, Ghaynelle Taylor Garner.

His family is thankful for the great care he received from Dr. Christopher (Chad) Kornegay and the staff at Vidant Duplin Hospital and Vidant Duplin Home Health and Hospice.

He was a blessing to so many.

It was his love for the Lord that we can have comfort and peace in knowing he will be waiting for us until we see him again.
