JAMES L. POPE
Oct. 25, 1942-June 11, 2017
James Leslie Pope, 74, died Sunday at Wayne UNC Healthcare.
He was born in Duplin County to Novella Brock Gay Pope and the late Alton Andrew Pope.
James was a United States Marine Corps veteran and a retired federal police officer.
Mr. Pope was also a member of the American Legion.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park, with pastor Jimmy Lassiter officiating.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
In addition to his mother, James is survived by a son, Michael Joseph Pope of Mount Olive; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his father, a daughter, Maria Louise Mims, preceded Mr. Pope in death.
