JAMES L. JOYNER

Oct. 21, 1921-June 12, 2017

James L. Joyner, 95, resident of Calypso, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at Genesis Health Care in Mount Olive, N.C.

He was the son of the late Lonnie and Mertie Joyner of Duplin County.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with Dr. Gregory A. Day officiating.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Pam and David Rouse, 245 N. Duplin School Road, Calypso.

Mr. Joyner was a longtime member of Calypso Baptist Church.

He was a retired farmer, a retired member of Calypso Fire Department and a World War II veteran.

He is survived by a sister, Betty J. Hollingsworth and husband, Ralph; an extended family, including Joyner King, Pam King Rouse, Somer K. Tyndall and Erin K. Brown; and sisters-in-law, Melba C. Parker, Rita C. Best and Mable C. Higgins.

Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins, along with many special friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrtle Cannon Joyner; two sisters, Inez J. Grady and Viola J. Barwick; and two brothers, Roy E. Joyner and Ralph J. Joyner.
