Archibald Hanes Pate Jr., 79, Goldsboro, passed away at his home Monday, May 15, 2017.

Buddy was born in Wayne County Nov. 17, 1937, to the late Archibald Hanes Pate Sr. and Corrine Willis Pate.

He proudly served in the North Carolina National Guard.

Buddy also worked for the United States Postal Service.

He was a millwright machinist by profession, and also had farming interests in Wayne County.

Buddy attended Goldsboro High School and Wayne Community College, where he majored in mechanical technology.

Buddy was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he had served on the administrative board, sang in the church choir and was a member of the hand bell choir.

He was a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge No. 112 A.F. and A.M., the Wayne County Historical Association and a charter member of Goldsboro Rifles Camp 760.

Buddy was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Travelers Protective Association and a former member of the Wayne County Fire Service.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 19, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church parlor of St. Paul United Methodist Church, followed by a service celebrating Buddy's life at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Phyllis Vail officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Buddy is survived by his daughter, Diane P. Hinnant of Clayton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Elton D. Pate; sister, Corrine Pate; and brother, Roy Pate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Buddy's memory to the music ministry at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
