James "Jim" Stuart Bowie, 74, died Friday, May 12, 2017, after a long hard fought battle.

Jim was born and grew up in Oregon. He was the son of Stuart C. Bowie and Esther B. Bowie.

In his youth, he liked trout fishing with his Dad and working on a ranch in Eastern Oregon.

Upon graduation from Oregon State University, he joined the Air Force, and was stationed at Seymour Johnson.

There he met his wife of 47 years.

He was discharged with the rank of captain, then worked part time as a registered land surveyor and full time at Bridgestone-Firestone.

Jim loved his family, the outdoors, a good ballgame and a hard day's work.

Many have described him as a really "good guy."

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Fulkerson Bowie; his daughter, Jenna Lynn Bowie of Greenville, N.C.; his son, Mark Stuart Bowie, wife, Erin Fields Bowie; grandson, Brent Stuart Bowie of Charlotte, N.C.; and sister, Jane Heidegger of Eugene, Ore.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery of Fremont, N.C.

Family will receive guests at Fremont Missionary Baptist Church immediately after the service.
