William Houston "Billy" King Jr., 82, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Billy was born in Wayne County July 24, 1934, to the late William H. King Sr. and Nancy Coker Lindsay.

He proudly served our country in the United States Army for more than 20 years, and retired with the rank of sergeant first class. Billy's valor and skill were recognized with numerous decorations.

After his military career, Billy managed several restaurants across eastern North Carolina.

Billy had a wonderful sense of humor, and never took himself too seriously.

He was a good husband, daddy, granddaddy and friend. Billy provided a wonderful home for his family, and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.

A service to celebrate Billy's life will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Coker Memorial Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with pastor Charles Heath and the Rev. Byron Murray officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church and other times at his home.

Interment will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Eastern North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

Billy is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Audrey Davis King; children, Roger King and wife, Melody, Billie King Medlin and husband, Gilbert, Karl King and wife, Teresa, and Tammy Lewis; grandchildren, Roger King Jr. (Jennifer), Todd Medlin (Sarah), Jennifer Goodson, Tracy Bingham, Ashley King, Brittany Williams (Zach), Olivia Lewis (Owen Benton), Michael King, (Stephanie), Karrie Bond (Brett) and Dawton King; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlynne, Mason, Hunter, Kerri, Hayden, Shelby, Destiny, Hannah J., Hannah P., Niles, Brooklynne, Bryce, Caleb, Carter, Braxton King, Eli, Sharon, D.J., Michael, Braxton, Matthew, Bradley and Brian.

He is also survived by his sisters, Nina King Holland and Barbara Turner, and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Vince King.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles King, and granddaughter, Crystal Jane Grady.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, especially his nurse Phyllis, for the love and care provided for Billy during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.
