VIRGINIA WALKER HERRETT

Virginia Walker Herrett, 81, Goldsboro, passed away early Monday morning, March 20, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Virginia was born in Wichita, Kan., Feb. 1, 1936, to the late Hiram and Amethyst McCanne Walker.

She was a very gracious lady with a kind smile to everyone who crossed her path.

Virginia raised three boys, who became men through some very tough and difficult times.

She was also a role model through adversity by suffering a stroke five years ago and learning to adapt and thrive in a very challenging situation. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Virginia was a valued employee of the state of North Carolina.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and served on the board for the Friends of the Wayne County Library.

Her warmth, generosity and kind spirit were well known and cherished by those she encountered throughout her life

A service celebrating Virginia's life will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Black Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert F. Bardin officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service in McChesney Hall.

Virginia leaves behind to cherish her memory sons, Steve Herrett, Bill Herrett and wife, Wendy, and their son, Cooper, and Jeff Herrett and wife, Kristen, and their children, Shelby, Joseph and William, and several nieces and a nephew she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Walker.

The family would like to extend a deep gratitude to the caregivers at the Brian Center and Kitty Askins Hospice Center. It was with your dedication to kindness and compassion that made our mother's last days of her journey very gentle and satisfying. Thank you.
