ELVIN G. JONES

Jan. 25, 1936-March 21, 2017

Elvin Gene Jones, 81, longtime resident of Mount Olive, received his eternal reward early Tuesday morning, March 21, 2017. He was at his home with his wife by his side when the Lord sent his angels to carry him home.

Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, March 22, at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive, officiated by his pastor, the Rev. Jeff Dail, and Robert Smith.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 130 Ed Edmundson Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.

Referred to some as "Puddin," he was known for his expertise in mechanics, especially on Ford engines.

He had been employed with Wilson Motor Co. in Mount Olive as a mechanic for 21 years before it closed, after which he and his wife founded and operated Jones Auto Repair at his home.

He had been a loyal member of Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church for 54 years. He served the Lord, his God, with diligence and service as a church deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He loved to sing the old songs of the church.

A staunch Ford man, he loved his customers, and they loved him, and many became dear friends.

Collecting old license plates was another thing that he enjoyed.

He loved his family and friends -- each and every one -- and was faithful to the end.

Son of the late Duffy and Elgie Jernigan Jones, he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Bennett Jones of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Randall Gene "Randy" and Geri Jones; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Dean Jones Brogden and Jeff Brogden all of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Kelly Randall Jones Smith and husband, Robert Smith, Andrew Randall Jones, Luke Randall Jones, Corey Mills, Ryan Mills, Ethan Harvey Brogden and Molly Dean Brogden; two brothers, Bobby Jones and wife, Linda Jones, of Kinston and Charles Ray Jones of Mount Olive; a sister, Lena Price of Goldsboro; and Billie Jean Jones, widow of his late brother, Bill Jones of Mount Olive.

Mr. Jones, a steadfast believer in his Christian faith, now has inherited eternal life with his Lord, and rejoices in the presence of Christ, the Savior.

"Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life." (Revelation 2:10)

A Tyndall service.
