VIRGINIA C. GARNER

Name

Aug. 27, 1938-March 11, 2017

Virginia Carter Garner, 78, Mount Olive, peacefully and quietly passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017.

She was born Aug. 27, 1938, in Greene County to the late Jesse Carter and Lessie Virginia Perry Carter.

Virginia's son, Gary, preceded her in death Sept. 9, 2015.

As matriarch of her family, Virginia relished her role as wife, mother and grandmother. The well-being of her family was her greatest concern.

A genuine Southern cook, Virginia was well known for her made-from-scratch biscuits, chicken pastry and pineapple cake. Her children and grandchildren have many fond memories of time spent together around the dinner table.

With Virginia, you never had to wonder how she felt. If she thought it, she said it.

Virginia loved and cherished living the simple life. The perfect day for Virginia included being at home reading her latest romance novel and listening to the smooth sounds of Elvis Presley. She loved tending to her yard, especially the roses.

A graveside service to celebrate and honor Virginia's life will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. from Garner Family Cemetery.

Virginia is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bobby Garner; three children, Billy Garner and wife, Sue, Don Garner and wife, Donna, and Larry Garner; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Garner; three sisters, Roxie Hinson, Retha Hill and Cindy Price; four brothers, Bozy Carter, Doug Carter, Michael Carter and Stanley Carter; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Virginia's family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
