DOROTHY ROGERS BURRIS

Dorothy Rogers Burris, 95, Goldsboro, went to be with her Lord Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Dot was born in Graycourt, S.C., March 1, 1921, to the late L.C. and Alma Grey Rogers. She was married to the late J.B. Burris.

Dot was a valued employee of A&P Grocery Store in Goldsboro for many years.

Her life was filled with humility, kindness and a love for others that she displayed every time she smiled.

Dot dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord.

She was a member of First Christian Church.

Her sweet smile and gentle ways will be remembered by everyone that knew her.

A graveside service celebrating Dot's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Carolina Memorial Park of Concord, N.C.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Dot is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Peggy Burris of Seven Lakes; grandchildren, Kenneth Wayne Burris Jr. of Cornelius and Susan Margaret Burris McVay and husband, Rob, of Pinehurst; and great-grandchildren, Katherine McVay and Sarah McVay.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jim Menius; sister-in-law, Luddy Rogers; and several nieces and nephews she loved very much.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Curtis Rogers, J.C. Rogers and Faris C. Rogers, and sisters, Violet R. Brown and Joyce R. Menius.

Dot's family would like to acknowledge the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center and the staff at Brookdale Berkeley, as well as the friends, caregivers, nurses and physicians, who had a profound impact on the quality of Dot's life in recent years.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to First Christian Church, 1509 E. Ash Str., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
