Died Jan. 12, 2017

Gary Eugene Britt, 64, Goldsboro, passed away Jan. 12, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Britt's funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Eureka Christian Church, 2036 Dobbersville Road, Mount Olive, N.C., in the Grantham community at 3 p.m. The Rev. Frank Purvis and the Rev. Frank Sandy officiated the funeral. Mr. Britt was laid to rest in the church cemetery immediately following the funeral. He received full Masonic rites at the graveside.

Visitation with the family was held prior to the funeral.

Mr. Britt is survived by his wife of 33 years, Juanita "Nita" Butler Britt; a son, Gary E. "Gene" Britt II and wife, Jennifer, of Fayetteville, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Redd Porras of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Liza Ann Porras and Bryce Ward Porras of Columbia, S.C.; half-brothers, Billy Ray Jackson and wife, Linda, of Dunn, N.C., and Delma Earl Jackson of Goldsboro, N.C.; and six special cousins born unto his beloved late uncle, Charles June Britt.

Mr. Britt was preceded in death by his mother and father, Carroll Eugene and Genie Best Britt; an infant brother; his sister, Alice Lynette Jackson; and a special uncle, Charles June Britt.

Mr. Britt was a proud member of Mill Creek Masonic Lodge, AF and AM, No. 125, a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite.

He served his community in many capacities ranging from being a member of Jordan's Chapel Volunteer Fire Department, serving the community's churches, organizing benefits for those in need or local organizations and helping those around him in any way possible.

Above all, Mr. Britt was a man devoted to his Lord and his family, both of whom he loved with all of his might. Though he will be missed, his family is forever grateful for the example he provided, the lessons he taught and the memories he left.

The family respectfully requests that should you choose to make a memorial in Mr. Britt's honor that memorials be made to Eureka Christian Church's scholarship fund, Jordan's Chapel Baptist Church, Selah Christian Church, Falling Creek Baptist Church, Falling Creek Methodist Church, Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Shriner's Children's Hospitals or Masonic Home for Children at Oxford.

The family will receive friends at home.
