THOMAS BENTON

Tom Benton, of Goldsboro, died Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Suffolk, Va., where he was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Hudson Benton and Alfred Lee Benton Sr.; and brothers, Alfred Lee Benton Jr. and Samuel Benton.

Mr. Benton had a lifelong career in law enforcement and security. His more notable accomplishments included serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, first as a military policeman, then drill sergeant to new recruits at Parris Island, S.C., chief of police, a supervisory CID and NCIS agent, and deputy provost Marshall.

He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1968, and served his country during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving is his wife Perla Ebilane Benton; sons, Ron Benton (Linda), Gary Benton (Marjean), Pete Benton (Dr. Cindy Wiley), Mark Benton (Thomas McGinnis), and Ryan Benton (Imee); daughters, Tomi Ann Rogers (Bill), Sara Mae Benton of Goldsboro; sister; Lillian Ann Eason (Bill); stepchildren, Marla Perez, Marlon Landero and Maricris Manalili; grandchildren, Erik Rogers (Kara), Billy Rogers (Emily), Kristi Scholz (Lloyd), Alison Smith (Thomas), Brad Benton (Richelle), Jeff Benton (Stephanie), Katy Benton, Dylan Benton (Daniela) and Anthony Cammon (Jill); great-grandchildren, Nelson William Rogers, Braxton and Wes Scholz, Blake and Ashley Smith, and Baylor and Campbell Benton.

Memorial service, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 11 a.m., St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1000 N. Jefferson Ave., Goldsboro, with the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen presiding.
