David James Welch, 76, Dudley, N.C., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016.

He was born Feb. 9, 1940, in Utica, N.Y., where he lived much of his life outside of his military service, and prior to retiring in 1995 to Dudley, N.C.

Dave served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1976 as a petty officer first class quartermaster. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving multiple deployments.

Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, gold prospecting and beekeeping.

Dave is survived by his wife, Dorothy, three children, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three sisters.

Per Dave's request, he will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery, and no services will be conducted.
