KATHY T. SMITH

Kathy Yvonne Thornton Smith, 59, died Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Kathleen Hughes Thornton.
She was a member of Eureka Christian Church, was retired from the Wayne County Health Department and was a substitute teacher at Grantham School.
Kathy loved working in her yard and playing sports, especially softball.
A service to celebrate Kathy's life will be held Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at Eureka Christian Church, with the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating.
Family members will greet friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
A private family graveside will be held in the church cemetery.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Mark Smith; a son, Austin Smith; a sister, Gina Taylor; three brothers, Dean Thornton, Doug Thornton and Dwight Thornton; her mother-in-law, Marilyn Weeks; her father-in-law, Jimmy Smith and wife, Mary; and a special friend, Sue Jinnette.
