RUBY SMITH POPE

Aug. 14, 1929-Sept. 2, 2016

Ruby Smith Pope, 87, Goldsboro, peacefully left this world to be with Jesus Friday afternoon.

Ruby was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose love for life and others was apparent to all who met her.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating Ruby's life at 7 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Danny Hamm officiating.

The family will also greet friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at her home in New Hope Village.

Interment will be Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Ruby was born in Greene County Aug. 14, 1929, to the late Willie H. Smith and Mary Lee Carter Smith.

She retired as a banker for Branch Bank and Trust after working with the company for more than 30 years.

Ruby loved Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, and was a dedicated and faithful servant her entire life.

She had a large extended circle of family and friends, and they were all very special to her. She will be missed, but greatly remembered.

Ruby is survived by her son, Gregory Mayron Pope and wife, Suzanne, of Pikeville; daughters, Susan Pope Walston of Goldsboro and Ginny Pope Byrd and husband, Darwin, of Beautancus; three grandchildren, Mary Carmen Pope of Wilmington, Lt. Cmdr. David Mayron Walston and wife, Courtney, of Tampa, Fla., and Ginny Noelle Hicks and husband, Shawn, of Goldsboro; and four great-grandchildren, Julian, Lillian, Hunter and Hayley.

She is also survived by two brothers, Bob Smith and wife, Peggy, and Bruce Smith and wife, Rose; two sisters, Nannie Mae Barrow and Margie Ormond and husband, A.C.; sister-in-law, Jeanette Smith; and her special "sister" with whom she was raised with, Jessie Mozingo.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Mayron Pope; grandson, Gregory Forrest Pope; brother, William Smith; and stepmother, Thelma "Monkey" Smith.

The family would like to extend a special appreciation to Antoinette Rodgers and Portia Gerald, who provided love and around-the-clock care for Ruby, allowing her to spend her final months at home. These ladies were not only caregivers, but they also brought love and laughter to her life.

In addition to flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 145 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill, N.C., 28580.
