Donald Moore Beaman, 80, passed away Thursday at home with his loving family.

He was born in Greene County, N.C., to the late Theodore Arthur and Kitty Moore Beaman.

In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his son, Donald James "Jamie" Beaman; sister, Audrey Beaman Bishop and husband, Garvin; and brothers, Marvin and wife, Peggy, and Selby and wife, Ann.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with pastor Carroll Overman officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will be receiving friends for one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virnece Church Beaman; daughter, Jennifer Beaman Pippin and husband, Wesley Stearns, of Statesville; sister, Ann Beaman D'Agostino and husband, Bruce, of Mariatta, Ga.; grandchildren, Tyler Beaman, Johnathan Beaman, Ethan Beaman and Mikayla Frye; along with a number of special nieces and nephews and their children.

His grandchildren were the light of his life through the many illnesses that plagued him the last number of years.

As a boy, he loved scouting and earned his Eagle Scout in 1953.

He and Virnece are members of Rhodes Friends Church of Mount Olive, N.C.

He was a lifelong member of Dudley Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a 1953 graduate of Brogden High School in Dudley, and attended North Carolina State College prior to being drafted into the United States Army, where he met and married his beloved wife, Virnece Church, who was a member of the Women's Army Corps.

After completing their Army tours, they returned to North Carolina, where he again entered the family farming business.

He was a very talented man, who had several careers during his lifetime. He was a farmer, skilled woodworker, teacher, humorist, loved husband, father and grandfather.

He taught woodworking and carpentry at Southern Wayne High School for 13 years, and made custom furniture as a sideline.

In 1982, he resigned from teaching to devote full time to making beautiful furniture. His work is treasured not only by family members, but also his many customers, some of whom were military families and traveled far and wide with their treasures.

He became a Scottish Rite Master Mason in 1989, and dearly loved his lodge and Masonic work, which is proven by his many awards over the years.

In 1995, he served as master of Mount Olive Masonic Lodge 208; 1996, became a member of the Royal Order of Jesters; 1997, became a York Rite Mason; 1998, received the Sudan Temple Nelson B. Banks Membership Award; 1999, served as captain of the Sudan Mini-Rigs; 2000, received the Lifetime Meritorious Award from the Scottish Rite Valley of Wilmington; 2003, named Man of the Year by the Sudan Mini-Rigs; and 2004, awarded the Harry S. Truman 33rd Degree Award by the Scottish Rite Valley of Wilmington.

He raised turkeys for 22 years at his Circle B Turkey Farm, and in 2000, was named Tom Turkey Grower of the Year by Goldsboro Milling Co.

He enjoyed life, and will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla., 33607.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. of Goldsboro is serving the Beaman family, and online condolences may be sent through www.shumate-faulk.com.
