MILDRED WHITE STATON

Mildred White Staton died April 28, 2016.

She was the third of nine children born to Lula and James White Sr. She grew up in Buckhorn and was educated in local schools, graduating in 1939 from Dillard High School.

In 1939, she eloped with her "Sweetie," Nathaniel Staton of Goldsboro, and settled in Richmond, Va., where she studied cosmetology and worked as a beautician in a shop at her home for over 60 years. There were no children born to this union. However, her closest friends in Richmond, Lucille and Bill Langhorne, had a son, Lawrence Langhorne Jr., who became her godson. She was married to Nathaniel for 54 years until his death in 1993.

Funeral service will be held at First African Baptist Church on Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at BurMemorial Garden, Bryan Boulevard.
