NEWTON BARTLETT

July 4, 1933-April 25, 2016

Newton Gerald Bartlett, 82, left this world to be with Jesus early Monday morning at Vidant Medical Center.

Newton was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, whose love for life and others was apparent to all who met him.

A service celebrating the life of Newton Bartlett will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Bill Rose and Bishop Jim Whitfield officiating.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the Ministry Training Center at the church.

Interment will be Thursday, April 28, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Newton was born in Wayne County July 4, 1933, to the late Luther and Emma Crawford Bartlett.

He worked with his hands for 30 years as a brick mason. However, his favorite occupation was a farmer, and many of his happiest times were spent atop one of his tractors on the family farm. For many years, Newton grew chickens for Perdue.

Newton also served his community as a fire commissioner for Little River Fire Department.

He had a passion for golf, and if it was a beautiful day, he enjoyed being on the links sharing shots and laughter with his pastor and friends.

Above all, Newton loved spending time with his family.

Most importantly, Newton loved his Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all his heart, and he loved God's word. He was constantly reading his Bible and praying those verses over those he loved.

Newton was a longtime member of Oak Street Pentecostal Holiness Church and later, The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served many years on the church board, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

Though he was a humble, gentle man, Newton was nonetheless a powerful prayer warrior, and only heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact all his many years of faithful praying have had on his family, his friends and the world at large.

"The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."

Newton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene Pate Bartlett; his children, Gerald Bartlett and wife, Darlene, Charles Bartlett and wife, Diane, Jeff Bartlett and wife, Connie, Doug Bartlett and wife, Anne, Kevin Bartlett and wife, Sylvia, and Melissa B. Harris and husband, Berry; grandchildren, Amy Marie Bartlett, Amy Michelle Bartlett, Michael Bartlett and wife, Leslie, Matt Bartlett and wife, Leigh Ann, Lauren Bartlett, Judith Gray and husband, David, Devin Eubanks and wife, Kristal, Ian Eubanks, Lauren Stevens and husband, Travis, Dustin Myers and wife, Stephanie, Tara Strother and husband, Jonathon, and Dylan Myers; and nine great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Helen Godwin and Sybil Sasser, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Luther Osborne Bartlett, and sisters, Janie Yates-Glendorf and Hester Jackson.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to The First Pentecostal Holiness Church Generations Center, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
