Clarence W. "C.W." "Dudgie" Barber, 73, Charlotte, N.C., passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016.

C.W. was born May 31, 1942, in Mount Olive, N.C., to the late Verlie Mae Powell Odom and George W. Barber.

He was raised by his grandmother, the late Willie Mae "Miss Willie" Powell.

C.W. began his career in January 1965 working for National Welders Supply Co. (Airgas National Welders), and retired after 49 years to enjoy "piddling," gardening and spending time at the beach sunning and shagging.

He loved all of his family, but especially his three grandsons and his "Josh."

He is survived by his daughters, Kristin Barber Blanton (and husband, Eddie), Melissa Barber McKendrick and Stephanie L. Barber; three grandsons, Patterson McKendrick, Ian McKendrick and Zachary Blanton; three half-brothers, Jackie Odom, William "Bill" Odom and Kenneth "Kent" Odom; and his aunt, Emma "Pic" Stevens (Everett).

A service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, April 9, at 3 p.m. at Palmetto Funeral Home located at 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill, S.C.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
