MARY ROSE BEST CASEY

Mary Rose Best Casey, 85, passed away peacefully at Kitty Askins Hospice Center March 18, 2016, after a short illness.

She was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Goldsboro, N.C., where she lived her entire life.

Rose graduated from Pikeville High School in 1949 and Crumpler's Secretarial School in 1951.

Sept. 27, 1952, she was married to Martin W. Casey, who passed away March 19, 2011; her life was devoted to him, her children and concern for and service to others. Her deep faith and gentle nature were blessings to all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at Goldsboro Friends Meeting, 700 Guilford St., Monday, March 21, 2016, at 2 p.m.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the meeting house.

Interment will be private.

Rose is survived by four children, Tom of Goldsboro, Victoria of Raleigh, Lee and wife, Pam, of Goldsboro and Daniel and wife, Judy, of Pine Level; five grandchildren, Matt, Hunter, Jillian, Samantha and Adam Casey; and one great-grandchild, Amelia Rose Casey, born Feb. 27, 2016.

Rose is also survived by siblings, Dorothy B. "Dot" Ford, Shirley B. Rippe, Janet B. Rolison, Patricia G. Braswell, Carol Gray and Gary Gray, and a special sister-in-law, Jean C. Becton.

In addition to her husband, Rose was predeceased by her parents, Hubert Lee and Tempie Lee Gardner Best; brothers-in-law, J. Frank Casey and Harrison C. Becton; sister-in-law, Marjorie W. Casey; and a special aunt, Clara M. Best.

Rose was a member of Goldsboro Friends Meeting for some 65 years, and served on every imaginable committee.

She and Martin were tireless workers for United Church Ministries.

In later years, she became a "Material Girl," sewing some 716 dresses for little girls through the Dress a Girl Around the World organization. She and her sisters had delivered more than 1,700 of these dresses.

In lieu of flowers, it was Rose's wish that memorials be made to Goldsboro Friends Meeting, 700 Guilford St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530; Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534; or United Church Ministries, 119 W. Walnut St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
