Gretta Lee "Grits" Ashley, 67, passed away Friday at her residence.
She was the daughter of Gretta Aldrich Hough and the late Murry Hough, and was the wife of Matthew Ashley Jr.
She was a member of the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base gospel service, and worked for the Base Exchange.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Friday evening.
Saturday, the body will lie in state at Word Faith Center from 11 a.m. to noon.
A funeral service will be held at noon, with the Rev. Clinton Brantley officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Eastern North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ashley is survived by her daughter, Maleesa Bristow and husband, Matt, of Knightdale, N.C.; two sons, Ken Ashley and domestic partner, John Sladek, of New York, N.Y., and Darrell Ashley Sr. of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Illa Hayes and Alecia, Darrell Jr. and Mathew Ashley all of Greensboro, N.C., and Ashlee Gause of Knightdale, N.C.; a great-grandchild, Akira Ashley of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Jean Hough of Greensboro, N.C., and Louise Hough of Bridgeport, Conn.; and a brother, Murray Hough and wife, Yvette, of Bowie, Md.
