Billy Ray Wells, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Billy Ray was born in Greene County on Feb. 4, 1937, to the late Floyd and Eunit Mae Radford Wells. He had worked as a manager with Big Star and Piggly Wiggly grocery stores in Kinston.

Billy Ray always exemplified God’s love and a heart for serving others. He was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church. Billy Ray was a rare treasure to his family and friends. He shared many wonderful stories and teaching experiences with his nieces and nephews. Billy Ray was always the first person to respond to anyone in need. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, from 1–2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service celebrating Billy Ray’s life at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Barry Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in the Snow Hill Cemetery.

Billy Ray is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lila Lorraine Kearney Wells; sister, Patricia Fowlkes and husband, Bill of Garner; seven nieces and six nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Walker Wells, and sisters, Annie Dorothy Futrelle and Carleen Shirley.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
