EDWARD A. "BUSTER" PARNELL

Edward A. "Buster" Parnell, 79, Newport, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Carteret Health Care of Morehead City.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Princeton Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Linebarger officiating.

Mr. Parnell was born in Johnston County Dec. 6, 1936, to Gaston and Lyda Howell Parnell.

Buster served his country honorably in the United States Navy.

He was a long distance truck driver, who drove well over 1,000,000 miles with no accidents.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan P. Workman and husband, Jim, of Chesapeake, Va.; son, Edward J. Parnell and wife, Carrie, of Hampton, Va.; brother, Bobby Parnell and wife, Joanie, of Rocky Point; sister, Patricia Riggs and husband, Gene, of Newport; five grandchildren, Kenda, Krystal, Matthew, Thomas and Steven; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Buster was preceded in death by his wife, Nina, and a brother, James G. Parnell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Edward's name to the Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina, P.O. Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, N.C., 28450.

Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. of Morehead City.
