DEEMS R. HOLLINGSWORTH

April 22, 1925-Feb. 15, 2016

Deems Ray Hollingsworth, 90, Goldsboro, passed away Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Deems was born in Sampson County April 22, 1925, to the late Fred Hollingsworth and Ada Barnett Hollingsworth.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.

The family will greet friends Thursday following the service at the cemetery and other times at his home.

Deems is survived by his wife of 68 years, Otha Littleton Hollingsworth; daughter, Sandy Woodard of Grantham; son, Randy Hollingsworth and wife, Fran, of Princeton, Texas; grandchildren, Holly Daly and husband, Chris, Rebecca Staskelunas and husband, Matt, Caroline Walton and husband, Kevin, and Kenneth Hollingsworth; and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Carson and Cuyler Daly and Hudson Staskelunas.

He is also survived by his brother, Morton Hollingsworth; sister, Mildred Matthews; and several nieces and nephews.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care it provided for Deems during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Also a thank you to the caregivers at 3HC, who cared for Deems over these past few months.
