OVELIA PRICE ROCKWELL

Ovelia Price Drew Rockwell, 93, Goldsboro, passed away Wednesday evening at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Ovelia was born in Johnston County April 18, 1922, to the late Dalley Henry Price and Essie Campbell Price.

She was married to the late David E. Drew (1945 to 1972) and the late James Clark Rockwell (1978 to 2002).

Ovelia was a 1944 graduate of East Carolina University.

Following graduation, Ovelia worked as a teacher at Nahunta School, later as the lunchroom manager at Walnut Street School, and retired as the school food service director with Wayne County Public Schools.

She loved Madison Avenue Baptist Church, and was a dedicated and faithful charter member. Ovelia served as the teacher of Fidilis Sunday school class for more than 40 years.

She was also a member of Goldsboro Woman's Club, Officers Wives Club and Goldsboro Garden Club.

Ovelia lived a life of dedication to her family and friends and to her community. She served her community many ways, volunteering with the Empty Stocking Fund, Neuse Baptist Association, United Church Ministries, American Red Cross bloodmobile and Salvation Army.

Ovelia had also served as past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She had a large extended circle of family and friends, and they were all very special to her. Ovelia will be missed, but greatly remembered.

A service celebrating Ovelia's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, with Dr. Robert Fulkerson officiating. Private interment for the family will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Ovelia is survived by her daughters, Dava Drew Jarman and husband, Bill (deceased), of Washington and Gloria Drew Kroenke and husband, Richard, of Charlotte; brother, Dr. Carl D. Price and wife, Faye, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ellie M. Jarman of Cary and David Kroenke and wife, Lauren, of Pineville; stepson, Jim Rockwell and wife, Theresa, of Sanford; stepgranddaughter, Mariah Rockwell of Sanford; and stepgrandson, Ryan Rockwell and family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Inez Price and Eunice P. Harwell, and brothers, Elbert Price, Dwight Price and Arnold Price.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 300 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
