Hiram Garfield Grantham, 84, left this world to be with Jesus Wednesday evening while surrounded by his family.

Hiram was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, whose love for life and others was apparent to all who met him.

Hiram was born in Wayne County Nov. 8, 1931, to the late Luby and Esther Mae Rose Grantham.

He was a retired interpreter with Cherry Hospital, and was a member of Blended Fellowship in Pikeville.

A service celebrating Hiram's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Doug Seymour officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday following the service and other times at his home.

Interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wayne Memorial Park.

Hiram is survived by his wife of 57 years, Billie Jean Turner Grantham; daughters, Julia G. Kirby and husband, Mike, of Pikeville, Sandra G. Gurley and husband, J.L., of Goldsboro, Brenda G. Letchworth and husband, Kris, of Zebulon and Debbie G. Stephens and husband, Darrin, of Goldsboro; son, Kenneth Grantham and fiancée, Judy Barker, of Winston-Salem; sisters, Betsy G. Jones of Mount Olive and Edna Earl Jones and husband, Johnny, of Goldsboro; brother, Jimmy Grantham of Goldsboro; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Brooks Marriner, and sister, Laverle G. Batten.
