JOSEPH RANDALL RUGGERY

April 17, 1960-Jan. 31, 2016

A native of Altoona, Pa., Joseph "Randy" Ruggery was born April 17, 1960, the youngest of six children born to Robert and Shirley (Hicks) Ruggery. He departed this walk of life Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016.

Randy married Lisa Benigni, the love of his life, and moved to Goldsboro, N.C., in 1987.

Randy was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church, and was active with the Knights of Columbus and Saint Mary School.

He received a degree in therapeutic recreation from Penn State University, and worked with individuals with intellectual disabilities, as well as a corrections officer and a life insurance broker.

Randy was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother, Patrick.

He is survived by his wife and his two daughters, Alaina and Megan Ruggery of Goldsboro.

He also leaves behind his brothers, Robert "Butchie" Ruggery, Ricky Ruggery and Denny Ruggery, and his sister, Linda George.

In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, Feb. 3, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Goldsboro, with the Rev. Alex Gonzales officiating the service.

Randy was active in his neighborhood community, and he never met a stranger. He will be sadly missed for his happy, outgoing manner and his willingness to help others.

A special thank you goes out to everyone who provided support and prayers during this time of sorrow.
