James William Ivey Sr., 89, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016.
James was born June 19, 1926, in Wayne County to the late William Henry Ivey and Nancy Parks Fields Ivey.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julia Mae Adams Ivey.
James loved the land and the life of the farmer. Passionate about farmwork, James took great pride in both his crops and herd of cows. James enjoyed driving around the community in his old pickup truck looking at the crops.
When away from the farm, James enjoyed fishing, and loved trips to the mountains. He enjoyed socializing and good conversation at Mae's Restaurant, Seven Springs Supply Co. or Ralph's Store.
A service to celebrate and honor the life of James will be held Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
James is survived by four children, Judy Stroud and husband, Linwood, of Greenville, Jr. Ivey and wife, Gloria, of Goldsboro, Joyce Anne Barwick and husband, Chris, of Seven Springs and Jackie Rouse of Seven Springs; six grandchildren, Mike Stroud and wife, Lisa, of Winterville, Julie Tuten and husband, David, of Winterville, Jamie Harris and husband, Mark, of LaGrange, Rodney Ivey and wife, Trisha, of Mount Olive, Amanda Rouse of Seven Springs and Kylie Barwick of Seven Springs; and six great-grandchildren, Noelle, Laura, Jorja, Wyatt, Jaret and Nolan.
