BLAKE THOMAS THORNTON

Blake Thomas Thornton, 80, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at Rex Hospital surrounded by his family.

Blake was born in Johnston County Feb. 11, 1935 to the late Everett Facie Thornton and Blanch T. Thornton.

He retired from sales, and was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church in Goldsboro, where he served in many capacities within the church over the years.

Although Blake leaves a vacant place in our hearts, we know he truly earned his special place in heaven. Blake will always be remembered as a loyal man of faith, love and respect for everyone who touched his life. The best of Blake will live on in each of us.

He leaves many wonderful memories with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by service celebrating Blake's life at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Richard Lewis officiating. Interment will conclude the service in Wayne Memorial Park.

Blake is survived by his wife of 58 years, Faye Thornton; children, Tammy and Doug Weaver of Roxboro, Kimberly and Nick Burroughs of Pikeville, Sherry and Roger Brock of Grantham and Blake Jr. and Megan Thornton of Swansboro; grandchildren, Juliana Gardner and husband, John, Kandace Best and husband, Taylor, Douglas Weaver and wife, Sarah Beth, Cynthia Sollars and husband, Tyler, Jacob Kriger, Taylor Brock, Meredith Burroughs, Tyler Brock, Tanner Brock and Cameron Thornton; and great-grandchildren, Campbell Sollars, Allison Best, Hayes Best, Emilee Gardner and Lilah Gardner.

He is also survived by his sisters, Nellie Westbrook, Arlene Strickland, Kathy Lee and husband, Junior, and Barbara Bryant; brothers, Jerry Thornton and wife, Joan, Dennis Thornton and wife, Ruby, and Everett Thornton and wife, Paula; and his sisters-in-law, Peggy Thornton and Lib Thornton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, S.E. Thornton of Kinston and Dale Thornton of Wilmington.
