RUTH CUMMINGS LEWIS

Ruth Cummings Lewis, 81, Pikeville, went to be with her Lord and savior early Monday morning, Dec. 28, 2015, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Ruth was born in Edgecombe County Oct. 29, 1934, to the late Joshua Edward and Elizabeth Gay Cummings. She was married to the late Rev. Leon T. Lewis.

Ruth was a true Christian lady, who loved God and lived each day showing those around her what faith in action is all about. She was a member of Westwood United Methodist Church, and was most recently attending Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.

A service celebrating Ruth's life will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with pastor Terry Hobbs officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service and other times at her home.

A private interment will be held in Pikeville Cemetery, with pastor Bob Clark officiating.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Nancy Sanders of Pikeville, Elizabeth Gainey and husband, Norwood, of Fremont and Brenda Williams and husband, Jerry, of Pikeville; sons, Edward Lewis and wife, Debbie, Richard Lewis and wife, Sheila, and Dennis Lewis and wife, Lisa, all of Pikeville; brother, Charles Cummings of Macclesfield; sisters, Sarah Gardner of Macclesfield and Mary Walters of Pinetops; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a grandson, James Edward Lewis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ruth's memory to Westwood United Methodist Church, 130 Short St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530; Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 10, Pikeville, N.C., 27863; or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, Va., 22312.
