Thomas Ray Carter, 82, lifelong resident of Scott's Store community, Mount Olive, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, at home.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home.
Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. at Albertson ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of which he was a loyal member, with burial following in Jones Family Cemetery.
Ray, a veteran of the United States Army, was a retired crop and poultry farmer, and was a retired security officer with Mt. Olive Pickle Co.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Whaley Carter; a sister, Edna Ruth C. Turner of Mount Olive; and several nieces and nephews, including a niece, Tracy Whaley Fraley now of Charlotte, whom he and Catherine were instrumental in her upbringing, as well as her two children, Tiffany and Lee.
Also surviving is Michelle Deal Nukols of Hartsville, S.C., another whose young life was heavily influenced by the Carters.
In addition, his surviving in-laws include Buddy and Nina Whaley of Potters Hill, Cookie and Tammy Whaley of Chocowinity and Shelia and Bonnie Baynor of Washington, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie Outlaw Carter and Eddie Gibson Carter; a brother-in-law, William Turner; and a sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn Graham.
