Shirley Patterson Kelly, 78, resident of Mount Olive, found eternal rest Monday evening, Oct. 5, at Wayne Hospital. Her loving and supportive family was with her when death came.

Shirley was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Margaret Whitfield Patterson.

She was a member of Unity Baptist Church of Mount Olive, and was a retired volunteer with Mount Olive Rescue Squad.

She held a prominent presence in the lives of her family, both at home and in the business sector, serving as secretary/treasurer of the family's business, Kelly's Little Mart Inc., which through the years, has operated a convenience store, a fish market, a specialty sewing shop, service and gas station, real estate and wrecker and repair services.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bobby R. Kelly, of the home; three children and their spouses, Phyllis Kelly Tucker and Billy Tucker, Anthony Ray Kelly and Casey Kelly and Wendy Kelly Stroud and Harvey Stroud all of Mount Olive; nine grandchildren, Danny Lampron, Phillip Lampron, Emily Kelly, Tyler Kelly, Kelly Stroud, Kimberly Stroud, Rhylea Tillman, Jessica Diaz and Danielle Tucker; four great-grandchildren, Jude Lampron, Cuyler Grantham, Natalie Diaz and Corde` Williams; two sisters, Helen P. Hinson of Mount Olive and Barbara P. Marquez of Faison; and three sisters-in-law, Nancy K. Brock of Mount Olive, Nellie K. Hall of Dudley and Sadie K. Edwards of Seven Springs.

Also surviving is Linda Diane Sellers of Mount Olive, who had been a loyal friend and caregiver for the last several years.

Her life will be remembered in a service to be held Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronnie Wise and the Rev. Ray Warren officiating, followed by visitation. Burial will be Friday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery of Mount Olive.
