REBECCA ADAMS MICHIE NEAL

Died Sept. 25, 2015

Rebecca Adams Michie Neal, 87, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, in her Richmond, Va., home attended by her two daughters, Lyles Neal Perkins (husband, Philip Perkins) of Los Angeles and Virginia Neal Mastrapa of Miami Beach.

She also is survived by Austin Brockenbrough III and his wife, Jane, as well as grandchildren, Alan, Brian, Edward and Neal Perkins and Rebecca Mastrapa.

She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and Ed's half-brother, Greaner Neal.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Edward Felgner Neal Jr., in 2008 and their son, Austin Brockenbrough Neal, who died at the age of 10.

Also preceding Rebecca were her sister, Jacqueline Michie Hart; her mother, Rebecca Adams Michie; father, Robert Ashton Michie; as well as grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Carson Adams and Capt. and Ms. John Chapman Michie Sr.

Born in Goldsboro, N.C., Becky married Eddie (Brockenbrough) Neal of Richmond in November 1951.

An ill-timed draft notice hastened their wedding plans, and she moved to Richmond to await Ed's return from the Korean War.

While raising a family, Rebecca was a devoted volunteer, serving on innumerable charities, boards and committees.

Ed and Rebecca were longtime members of St. James Episcopal Church, where she was truly a doer of the word.

Rebecca loved dancing with Banks McNairy.

Nothing could keep Becky off the tennis courts, and later from her beloved bridge games.

Rebecca, either with Ed or with friends, enjoyed traveling all over the world, including Cyprus, Russia, Spain, England and Majorca, to visit family. If not home, Becky could always be found at the beach.

To all those who spent time with Becky this past year, her gift was sharing her incredible courage, unstinting grace and unflagging concern and caring she had for others, despite her own trials.

Her last concerns were about making sure that everyone who helped her out this year, and that would be a long, long list indeed, knew how much she appreciated their time, prayers and food. Rebecca's dignity and fearlessness left a deep mark on all of us that will be in our hearts forever.

Memorial services for Rebecca will be Tuesday, Sept. 29, at St. James Episcopal Church in Richmond at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to the Sheltering Arms Foundation, 140 E. Shore Drive, Second Floor, Glen Allen, Va., 23059, or St. James Episcopal Church, 1205 W. Franklin St., Richmond, Va., 23220.

Her family is thankful for the outpouring of support and help from her friends and for the exceptional care from the Bon Secours Hospice Program.
