VALERIE THORNTON-GOSS

Valerie Bekshaw Thornton-Goss, 69, Brandon, Miss., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at Merit Health Rankin.

Visitation was Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, from 4 to 6 p.m., and will also be Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, from 1 to 2 p.m. before the memorial service at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Miss.

Valerie Margaret Bekshaw was born Oct. 7, 1945, in Goldsboro, N.C., to the late Andrew Walter and Lucile Margaret Woodard Bekshaw.

She had been a resident of the Brandon area since 1967.

She was an editor with numerous non-fiction titles.

She was also a nationally recognized, certified crochet and knitting instructor.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon J. Goss Jr. of Brandon, Miss.; her children, Julie Squyres (Joe) of Brandon, Miss., Kim Calhoun (Rick) of Braselton, Ga., Sandy Goss of Chicago, Ill., and Kelly Arledge (Steve) of Jacksonville, Fla.; her sister, Virginia Shaw of Goldsboro, N.C.; her brother, Bill Woodard of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren, Ryan Calhoun, Ana Arledge, Mary Arledge, Mason Squyres and Logan Squyres; and numerous nieces and nephews.
