Michael Jennings Withers, 71, of Mount Olive, died Thursday night, Sept. 24, at his home surrounded by his family.
A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Mount Olive, with Dr. Dennis R. Atwood, Dr. Opey Jeanes and Pat Withers officiating.
A time of fellowship will follow in the Christian Life Center of the church.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made to First Baptist, P.O. Box 203, Mount Olive, 28365; the church of one's choosing; or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, 27534.
Mr. Withers, son of the late Jennings Walter Withers and Marilyn Yates Withers, was retired from Caswell Center of Kinston, where he was director of residential services.
He was a loyal member of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive, where he had been a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and was involved with the J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) fellowship.
He was an excellent cook, and enjoyed sharing his culinary talents with his family, church family and friends.
Surviving family members include his wife, Carolyn Herring Withers, of the home; a daughter, Jennifer Withers-Jones and husband, Mack Jones, of Mount Olive; a son, Cameron Withers and wife, Alisha Withers, of Cove City; three grandchildren, Caleb Jones and Caroline Jones of Mount Olive and Ella Faith Withers of Cove City; a brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Jane Withers of Thomasville, and their family; and two sisters-in-law, Patricia H. Turnage and husband, Johnny Turnage, of Goldsboro and Emily H. Farmer and husband, Bill Farmer, of Mount Olive, and their families.
