DONNIE CAPPS

March 23, 1954-Sept. 19, 2015

William Donnie Capps, 61, Goldsboro, after a courageous battle with cancer, passed peacefully into that far better life with his Lord and savior and with those beloved family who went on before. His courage during this fight was typical of his strength of character, reflecting his loyalty and dedication to his family and for his love of life.

Donnie was born in Wayne County March 23, 1954, to the late William Henry Capps and Leona Thompson Capps.

He was a lover of nature, and enjoyed the yard that surrounded his home.

Donnie also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States as a truck driver for WalMart.

He was devoted to his family and his church, The First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Those of us who knew Donnie weep at our loss, laugh with our remembrances and reflect deeply on how much he meant to us. He made the world a healthier and happier place.

A service celebrating Donnie's life, and to give witness to his faith in Jesus Christ, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Bill Rose and the Rev. Curtis Beasley officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, in Wayne Memorial Park with fireman honors rendered by Mar Mac Fire Department, where he served as a fireman for many years.

Donnie is survived by his wife of 33 years, Bonnie Goff Capps; children, Tammy Jones and husband, Brett, of Elizabeth City, Lisa Melvin of Elizabeth City and Rebecca Ann "Becky" Tilley of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren, Katlyn McCoy and husband, Joey, Holly Price, Ashleigh Craddock, Heather Jones, Amber Jones, Bradley Jones, Ashleigh Craddock and Robbie Craddock; and three great-grandchildren, Saevan, Bentley and Tanner.

He is also survived by three brothers, James Capps and wife, Rose, Richard Capps and Billy Capps and wife, Amanda; three sisters, Frances Mozingo, Alice Pate and husband, Jimmy, and Teresa Summerlin; and his dear friends, John and Brenda Smith and Willie Thompson, whom he thought of as a brother.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at his home.
